Created from hand cut maps and collaged prepared papers, all held together by map pins.

A map tells a story; not just factual information, but also the cartographer’s story. This work is concerned with recreating a new map through changing location and context of the immediate personal daily environment by connecting personal stories, memories, and fears. Life’s unpredictability leaves holes in this well constructed map. The resultant map is only partially visible and incomplete through the mask of personal perspective.

Navigation aided by paper maps became redundant in the era of the global positioning system navigation device (GPS). The tactility of old paper maps evoke sentimentality which is destroyed by cutting it up in pieces. New context is created through constructing the fragile pieces held together by map pins, creating a new personal navigation device in the process.
